The historic Mellingburger Schleuse has been in existence since 1855. The complex is a designated historic landmark and has been undergoing a faithful reconstruction since 2025.
Mellingburg Castle, after which the lock is named, once stood where the nature reserve is located today.

There are 45 parking spaces on our premises, which your guests can use free of charge—subject to availability—during your event at Alstertal. We also have charging stations for electric cars; charging fees are billed separately.
